Frequently Asked Questions
  • How do I start sessions with you?

Please reach out to me using the contact form on this site or via email at  Within about 48 business hours,  I will get back with you via email to see if you have any questions, hear a little bit more about why you are reaching out and what you are looking for in the counseling process, and discuss my availability and next steps.  From there, we will either get an initial appointment scheduled or I will gladly give you some additional names of other Indy area therapists if we determine I’m not the best fit for what you are looking for or my availability doesn’t match up with yours.

  • How long does each counseling session last?

Sessions are typically 55 minutes long–whether you are a new client or an existing one.  This is for both individuals and couples. There may be certain circumstances in which we may schedule a longer session, but you & I would discuss this ahead of time and make sure we both felt it would be beneficial.

  • How much do your sessions cost?

My standard fee for each 55 minute session is $150.  Fees are typically due at the time of service and are accepted via credit card, FSA/HSA cards, check, or money order.  The only insurance company I currently am in-network provider for is Aetna.  If you carry Aetna as your insurance company, I am glad to submit your claims on your behalf.  Otherwise, I am glad to provide you what insurance companies recognize as a “Superbill” so that you can submit your claims directly to your insurance company if you have out of network benefits.

  • Where do you have your sessions?

I have sessions both in person and via Telehealth.  My in person office is located in the heart of Broadripple at 819 E. 64th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46220.  My office is near both the canal that goes through Broadripple as well as the Monon Trail.  You can use our office parking lot right in front of our building while you are at your appointment.  If you choose Telehealth for your sessions, my licensing guidelines state that you must be in Indiana at the time of our sessions.

  • How often will I meet with you?

Ultimately, I leave that decision up to my clients–as it is often an individual decision with lots of different factors.  My experience tells me that it is most helpful for people to initially begin with weekly or biweekly counseling so they can gain some traction with the process and begin seeing some movement & growth without feeling like they are “starting over” each time they come (which often happens when new clients spread out appointments too far initially).  In the end, however, this decision is completely up to you.   This is something we can discuss further together when we meet the first time.

  • What happens during the first session?

I like to have new clients fill out their initial forms prior to coming in so that I can have a chance to review them and so that you don’t spend time during your first session filling out forms. We will spend some time reviewing your forms, highlighting a few of my practice policies, & answering any and all questions you have. Most of the first session is spent talking about what is most important to you & why you have decided to begin the counseling process. My aim is for you to feel comfortable with me & the process and move as slowly or as quickly as you desire.  Everyone is different–and that is okay and to be expected.  My hope will also be to give you some ideas, reflection, & strategies for you to experiment with after that first session and before your next.

  • How do I schedule my appointments?

New clients can email me to let me know of their interest in counseling or ask any questions they have).  From there, we will figure out the best next steps together.   I will get back to you usually within 2  business days. Existing clients can access my Client Portal feature at any time to schedule/reschedule/cancel appointments & send me secure messages, if needed.  The “Client Portal” link can be found under the “scheduling” tab above as well.  All clients have access to the portal after their first session.
